The interior and exterior renovation of this Tribeca apartment sets out to absorb the surrounding urban landscape while reconfiguring the interior spaces. MAD introduced elegant interiors and an extremely efficient layout, crafted with the intention of making this relatively small apartment feel larger and more connected to the city beyond.
Three large glazed areas frame panoramic views of the city in each of the three program areas (living/dining area, kitchen, and master suite). The main double-height living space is anchored by a meticulously detailed steel stair, defined by cables which layer in front of a concrete paneled surface that ascends to the master suite on the second level. The concrete material creates a backdrop for the volumes of the stair, mezzanine, and kitchen island – all of which act as floating elements, contrasted against the concrete backdrop. On the upper level is the master suite, overlooking the main space.
The interactive frames as created by its large windows throughout, meet crisp and cohesive interiors that offer this residence an engagement with the city, allowing our design to act as a filter of surrounding downtown Manhattan.
