The Museum of American War Letters is the world’s first, “entirely virtual” historical museum, in that it exists only online and is not inspired by an actual, physical structure. The 3D, immersive experience of visiting the museum, which can be done from anywhere in the world, is like walking through a real building. By exhibiting the correspondences of service members and their loved ones, the Museum of American War Letters emphasizes the extraordinary sacrifices made by U.S. troops and veterans, as well as their families, from the Revolutionary War to the present day. Along with honoring these men and women, we hope that this museum will inspire communities, universities, historical societies, and other institutions to create their own “entirely virtual” museums, buildings, and galleries that are as realistic as any brick-and-mortar structure. Ultimately, we believe that these “entirely virtual” creations represent an exciting, new, pioneering form of architecture.
