The team of architects and interior designers at MAD worked in collaboration with Design-Apart (an Italian high end millworker) on the renovation of this one bedroom apartment located in a beautiful prewar building in the upper west side. Simple lines and graphic concepts were the inspiration for the project. We maximized an open feeling by creating material and functional separations not with a wall, but with beautifully crafted custom millwork.
A color palette was selected to merge rose/crème wood, natural beige and bold black marble accents. Flos lighting systems define the “stage”. We created an architectural canvas upon which the dark cables become fine lines and space-sculpting elements. Black and white tones for the bath as well, were Carrera marble slabs are highlighted by the black Dornbracht fixtures. Custom furniture provides efficient storage throughout the apartment and the kitchen can be discreetly closed to allow the space a flawless flexibility.
