La Casa Corbatin (The Bowtie House) is situated in the Quetzaltenango Province, in the heart of a volcanic mountainous region in Western Guatemala. The site lies just outside of the town center, elevated and affording glorious views to the East of the stunning mountain landscape. The uniquely shaped and narrow lot drove the design to develop three stories: the first includes the family-run shop, a small garage, and a garden; the second is the family common space; and the third houses the bedrooms. The three levels are shifted to accommodate the needs of the program enclosed, and to create balconies and exterior connections that facilitate a fluid indoor/outdoor lifestyle.
