Located at Union Square West, NYU Carlyle Court houses 740 students within three separate buildings surrounding an internal courtyard. Enhancing the community atmosphere of this residential complex, MAD proposed the redesign of the courtyard as the central common space for the students, in addition to the upgrade and redesign of the three building’s residential units. An initial phase was completed in 2016, with the design and renovation of the lobbies for Carlyle I and II providing new administrative offices. A subsequent Phase 2 was completed during the Summer of 2022, where all the residential units and common areas in Carlyle 1 and 2 will be updated. The two 12-story buildings have been carefully planned to provide new MEP infrastructure, along with the important ADA compliance upgrades through the redesign of 16 individual units in each of the two buildings. New finishes, lighting and IT are proposed for ALL upper floor corridors and student apartments. Our design team has worked with NYU Facilities staff to pre-order selected items as part of the coordinated construction phase. Carlyle 3 and the main lobby has been developed through Design Development and it is scheduled for a following fiscal year. That subsequent scope includes the main entry lobby and student services areas open toward Union Square where the residents of all three buildings access Carlyle Court Residence Hall.
