We designed the Commons for this dormitory located at 75 Third Avenue, which houses 950 first-year students. Design work included the creation of multiple zones, encouraging active and passive student uses. The implied subdivision of the large, open space allows ongoing activities to coexist while students bisect the lounges. Bamboo-clad booths surround a billiards area, while café style counters and dedicated gaming areas provide students with a variety of opportunities to relax and socialize.

The glass enclosures along the perimeter provide acoustic and visual separation from surrounding student functions. The existing multi-purpose theater was redesigned to improve access, combined with securing an update Public Assembly permit for large events. A tech/VR lab was created to provide students with a modern and innovative space, while new study lounges and an updated Dance Studio rounded out our design work for the Residential Life Department at NYU.
