The design of this Italian restaurant was informed by two levels the owner had leased inside a landmark building. Project planning was led by MAD, and the gut renovation resulted in a foyer, bar, and dining area. The dining room and patio spaces are well supported by the lower level’s commercial kitchen, food prep areas, restrooms, offices, and storage. A lift was also installed at the entry steps to align with ADA requirements.
Interiors were designed following the owner’s direction to include venetian plaster ceilings and upholstered perimeter seating banquettes. A custom wood millwork unit visually carries the visitor along the length of the main level, displaying a vast collection of wines. This wonderful addition to this elegant upper east side was achieved through the design and construction of the restaurant and its discreet exterior signage.
