Encouraged by the department’s program and project’s material palette, MAD Studio worked with our architectural team to design environmental graphics for the four floor renovation. The tiled bathroom interiors recall ground vegetation and coral marine environments, while applied graphics within the stairs reflect on the carpet’s lichen pattern and highlight each floor’s specific color scheme. The stair graphics seek to encourage their use in lieu of the elevator as occupants interact with other floors. When opened, these access doors connect the floor’s designation with the colorful design on the rear interior, resulting in one cohesive number shape. Wayfinding is subtle, yet featured in that it only becomes more evident when the stair door is opened. All other wayfinding was also part of the renovation.
