A historic West Village townhouse, built in 1817, was completely renovated with custom millwork and a cantilevered wood stair. The building’s original ceiling beams, exposed brick and wideplank flooring are contrasted with modern countertops, white-washed woodwork and contemporary art. By creating an open floor plan and eliminating all full-height partitions, we embraced the apartment’s small footprint and transformed it into a light-filled residence.

The historic West Village townhouse was completely renovated with exterior stucco being replaced and its cornice was repaired. A new color palette was proposed and approved by LPC, as a result of staff review and meetings. Existing windows were replaced with custom fabricated wood windows that were specifically approved by LPC, while meeting the Owner’s high acoustic requirements, since the building is situated at a fairly busy intersection in the West Village. Wrought iron details were also restored to complete the building’s exterior renovation.
