Our project is for a full interior and exterior renovation and restoration to return the existing multifamily to a single-family residence. The new owner desired to have a graceful, beautiful building that represented the elegance and quality of the neighborhood and area, both inside and out. In retaining Achille Salvagni, the designer from Italy to design the townhouse’s interiors and residential furniture, we were able to collaborate as local architects of record (AOR), while also being responsible for the design of all exterior scope associated with the landmark building.

Constructed in 1897, the existing townhouse was built as a five-story building on a 22’ x 100’-5” lot. The building was raised to the existing six stories in 1932 and is 13,538 square feet. Based on the Landmark Preservation Commission designation report, the front façade was also ‘modernized’ in 1932, and the original ornamentation and detailing was shaved off, resulting in the smooth planar surface, which is currently a flat stucco. Our new limestone façade and copper-clad ornamental mansard meets the street with a new recessed areaway and custom designed entry gate and door.
